How to Profit from the Coming Demographic Storm and Stay Ahead of the Crowd

Kindel's Demographics

September 21, 2009

Emerging demographics for Amazon's Kindel e-reader (see table below) are fascinating. Informal demographic analysis conducted by Kindle Culture, suggests that the Kindle may be the first general purpose technology device in which the early adopter demographic favors the over-54 age bracket instead of the usual 18-34 age bracket, "effectively turning one perennial marketing trend on its head."

We believe there will be a huge e-book, or digital book, catch up in the 18-34 age bracket in 2010, after Apple launches its own e-book reader the iTouch Tablet.

While it looks like the older demographic of 54-years and older is going to be very important for the success of the eventual brand leader, the market may end up split into two, with the younger segment favoring the Apple product over Sony's e-reader, and the older segment favoring Amazon's Kindle. Whatever the case, we believe Apple will emerge as the eventual winner of the nascent digital reader war.
